The Fire Inside is a portrait series of wrestlers, the hardest-working athletes on the planet, as well as everyone else associated who make the sport so great.
Wrestling is an incredible tool for youth development, character building at any age, and international diplomacy. But it’s often misunderstood by outsiders. My goal with this project is to reveal all the things about the sport that we who love it so much understand and believe, exposing non-wrestlers to the sport in a different way.

I have created a new website and permanent digital home for this body of work I began in 2015. I’m really excited to have a place for it to live and this launch is the culmination of years of planning and months of work. It will continue growing and evolving as I flesh it out, but it feels really good to have it live to the public for the first time.
This project continues to grow. What began as a desire to shoot more portraits has turned into a veritable archive of the sport. With 300 400 500 750 1,700 3,500+ subjects and counting, The Fire Inside is becoming a huge snapshot of the wrestling community.
The collage below was also on display during The Wrestler’s Esthetic in 2016, and is a small selection—108 portraits in total—of the images produced to date.
